World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims: EC unveils road safety figures for 2019

The 25th World Day of Rememembrance for Road Traffic Victims took place on 15 November 2020. On this occasion, the European Commission presented the final road safety figures for the year 2019. The statistical report shows a decrease by 3% of road deaths in the EU compared to the year 2018. The figures are encouraging, but there is a need to step up the efforts since 22,017 people still died in road accidents in the EU in 2019. The European Commission is already very active and works closely with EU countries and other stakeholders to reach its goal of ‘Vision Zero’ zero fatalities and serious injuries by 2050, pursuant to the EU Road Safety Policy Framework 2021-2030. Furthermore, the European Commission had also published on the same day a report highlighting the progress made by the Member States towards the EU target of 50% fewer road fatalities by 2020 during the period 2010-2019.
